Privacy Policy
Last updated 26 July 2026
This policy explains what Splice ("Splice", "we", "us") collects when you use the Splice app or website, why we collect it, and what we do with it. It applies to organizers who create splices and to members who join one.
The short version on phone numbers
We use your mobile number for one thing: sending you alerts about a splice you joined. No mobile information is sold. No mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Your text messaging opt-in and consent data is never shared with anyone.
1. Information we collect
You give us directly
- Name. So the rest of the group knows who joined and who paid.
- Mobile phone number. Collected when you join a splice, used only for the transaction alerts described in section 3.
- Email address. Collected from organizers for account sign-in.
- Expense details. What was paid for, how much, and who is in the group.
- Personal spending limits and pause preferences you set.
Collected by our payment processor, not by us
Payments run through Stripe. Card numbers, bank details, and identity verification documents go directly to Stripe and are never stored on Splice servers. We keep only a Stripe reference identifier and the status and amount of each payment. Stripe's own privacy policy governs that data.
Collected automatically
- Basic technical data needed to serve the site: IP address, browser type, and pages visited.
- A session cookie that keeps you signed in to a splice you already joined. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
2. How we use your information
- To calculate what each person owes and to process that payment.
- To notify you before, during, and after a charge.
- To show the group who has joined and who has paid.
- To authenticate organizers and secure accounts.
- To detect and prevent fraud and abuse.
- To meet legal, tax, and financial record-keeping obligations.
We do not use your information for behavioral advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles.
3. Text messages
When you join a splice you are asked for your mobile number and must tick a consent box before you can continue. That is express written consent to receive account and transaction text messages from Splice. The box is unchecked by default and consent to receive texts is not a condition of purchase.
- What we send: alerts that a charge is coming, that a charge succeeded or failed, that someone paused the group, or that a splice has closed. We do not send marketing or promotional texts.
- How often: frequency varies with activity, typically one to four messages per splice you join.
- Cost: Splice does not charge for messages. Message and data rates may apply from your carrier.
- Stopping them: reply STOP to any message. You will receive one confirmation and nothing after that. Reply START to resume, or HELP for assistance.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All of the categories in section 4 exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
4. Who we share information with
We share the minimum necessary with:
- Other members of your splice. Your name, and whether you have joined, paused, or paid. Your phone number is visible only to the organizer of a splice you joined, so they can reach you about that expense.
- Stripe, to process payments and verify organizer identity.
- Twilio, our messaging provider, which delivers the texts described above.
- Supabase and Render, which host our database and servers.
- Law enforcement or regulators, where we are legally required to.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers or advertisers.
5. How long we keep it
Data for a single splice is retained for about 30 days after it closes, so members can still see their receipts. Recurring Splice Circles keep data while the Circle is active. Payment records are kept as long as financial and tax law requires, typically seven years. You can ask us to delete your data sooner (section 7).
6. Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit with TLS. Card data never touches our servers. Access to production data is limited to people who need it to operate the service. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your rights
You can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it for a particular purpose. Email support@splice.cash and we will respond within 30 days. Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and other states with privacy statutes have these rights by law, and we extend the same process to everyone. We will not discriminate against you for exercising them.
8. Children
Splice is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a minor has given us data, email us and we will delete it.
9. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and for material changes we will notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
